This infrastructure will prevent 20 minors from having to travel from Mogán, San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Santa Lucía to their CEE in Telde

The old CEIP El Pedrazo will house a classroom from the Petra Lorenzo Special Education Center.

The Mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana together with the Minister of Education, Manuela Armas, visited the center today to check the status of the recently completed works.

This measure will make it possible for students from San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Santa Lucía and Mogán not to have to travel to Telde, where the CEE is located.

The public officials showed their satisfaction at being able to verify the completion of the work and the magnificent facilities that the Special Education students in the south of the island of Gran Canaria will have for the start of the next school year.

The old El Pedrazo Early Childhood and Primary Education Center (CEIP), which is located in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, in Gran Canaria, will be converted next year into a classroom for the Petra Lorenzo Special Education Center (CEE), located in Telde.

To put the new spaces into operation, it has been necessary to carry out a series of renovations in said center that have cost 290.365 euros. This action will allow students from both San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Santa Lucía de Tirajana and Mogán to attend school during the next academic year, so that they do not have to travel to Telde, where the CEE is located.

This was explained today by the Minister of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuela Armas, after visiting the new facilities of the center accompanied by the general director of Centers, Infrastructure, and Educational Promotion, Laly González, the representative of Parliament of the Canary Islands, Pino González and on behalf of the municipal entity, the mayor Conchi Narváez and the councilor of education Clara Inés Martel.

For her part, Conchi Narváez “thanked the Counselor for the collaboration and work carried out in this municipal space so that this need of our neighbors with special education needs became a reality and that it was ready for the next course. Likewise, he recognized the work carried out by the Councilor for Education Clara Inés Martel in her continuous efforts to move this project forward.”

The center has a constructed area of 335 square meters on an area of 1.010 square meters. The actions carried out include the implementation of four teaching classrooms; nursing and physiotherapy, management, and guidance offices; three toilets; office, dining room, warehouse and a patio with pergola for shade and cushioning pavement, among other areas.

On the other hand, a Transition to Adulthood classroom for Secondary students will also be installed in this center.

This work responds to the demand for quality educational infrastructure that allows the full development of the right to education under equal conditions in San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
