Francisco García and Román Rodríguez place the first stone of the works of the Cultural Center of Santa Lucía helmet

 

The mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, and the vice president of the Canary Islands Government, Román Rodríguez, laid the first stone of the works on the Cultural Center of Santa Lucía helmet this Thursday afternoon. The future two-story building will have an exhibition hall, multipurpose room and audiovisual room. The building will also house one of the collections of ethnographic goods found in recent decades in La Fortaleza and other areas and sites in the southeast of Gran Canaria and which have been part of the collection of the Sánchez Araña family.

 

After a negotiation between representatives of the Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council and the Cabildo of Gran Canaria with the Sánchez Araña family, the owners of the collection have agreed to make it publicly available for conservation, research and dissemination.

 

The mayor, Francisco García, recalled that “this place is part of the history of our town because the teachers Doña Clara Pérez and Don Enrique Hernández taught at the school here, it is a very special place for many boys and girls from Santa Lucía de Tirajana.” The first mayor added that "I thank the Canarian Government and its vice president Román Rodríguez for their support to make it possible for us to have a new public infrastructure in Santa Lucía that will improve the cultural offer, where exhibitions, audiovisual projections can be held, and an important part of the ethnographic collection of the Sánchez Araña family, fundamental pieces to know our past and maintain our identity.” 

 

The new building will be located on Senator Castillo Olivares avenue in Santa Lucía, near the Santa Lucía church. According to the project carried out by municipal technicians, “The building, with a total constructed area of ​​830,83 m2, is designed and distributed to contain a program that is developed as follows: 

 

 

 

- On the ground floor there are toilets, storage, facilities room, reception, multipurpose room, changing room, warehouse and patio. 

 

- On the first floor there is the audiovisual room, exhibition rooms and distributors to the different spaces.” The building consists of “a homogeneous façade and traditional chromatic, formal and aesthetic elements, which is why it complies with the building parameters specified in the detailed organization of the operational plan of Santa Lucía de Tirajana.”
