Inflation falls almost three points in March

CRISTIAN SANCHEZ Friday, March 31, 2023

The CPI falls up to 3,3% in the month of March but underlying inflation remains the same, falling only 0,1% compared to the month of February

Inflation took a break in March and fell by more than two percentage points, standing at 3,3%. These figures break the upward trend that the CPI had had since the beginning of 2023, with inflation reaching 6% in February.

In the annual comparison, there is a drop of 6,5 points compared to the month of March of last year, a notable drop but the explanation for which responds to the rise in prices experienced in the months of February and March in 2022 due to the start of the war in Ukraine.

As Minister Nadia Calviño announced, the decrease in March is due to the containment measures adopted by the executive as well as the Iberian exception in the price of electricity. The Government rules out implementing more measures to contain prices for the moment, stating that with the current ones an even more notable reduction in inflation can be achieved.

However, core inflation (which includes packaged products, perishables and everything that is not fresh products and energy) has barely changed its figures, falling only 0,1%, which equals the January records and certifies a stabilization around 7,5%.
