Holy Week: Pájara encourages Canarians to consume in the south of Fuerteventura

The mayor of Pájara, Pedro Armas, encouraged this weekend the thousands of Canarians who move to the south of Fuerteventura for the Easter holidays to consume on the island and recalled that the small local business serves the islanders "with the open hands." "There is everything here, and the prices are on par with those in Gran Canaria or Tenerife, in the case of those who buy to go to their apartments," said Armas. Almost all boat seats from Gran Canaria to Morro Jable, whether on Naviera Armas or Fred Olsen, are sold out for users with cars. Armas made this consideration after the act of tribute to the Virgen del Carmen in Morro Jable, which since this Holy Week greets visitors with a 4-meter-high sculpture in tribute to the sailors and the Spanish Navy.

 

 

 

 

Pedro Armas said that "the Canarians have to know that they are our brothers here and, as such, we offer our brothers all our talent and all our know-how to serve them, especially these days." Armas pointed out that "I don't want to talk about expenses per person and day, they are Canaries and no brother is treated as a tourist in our house, we help them have a good stay and return more frequently, that's what I ask of them" .

Armas pointed out that "Pájara has been a characteristic place over time for its primary sector, so fishing represents one of the professions that has helped us the most to grow and get to where we are today." This April, the Pájara City Council has launched an agenda of actions for Easter due to the high presence of islanders who combine their stay on the island with accessing religious events.

In Morro Jable, a four-meter-high sculpture has been discovered in tribute to the sailors of the islands with which "we want to pay the tribute they deserve and return part of this work and dedication through gratitude," highlighted the mayor. The Spanish Navy has joined this tribute with the presence of a maritime unit, the BAM Rayo.

 

 

 

The offering to those who died at sea was thanked by the president of the Morro Jable Fishermen's Guild, Juan Placeres, and the chief of staff of the Canary Islands Naval Command and Naval Commander of Las Palmas, Ángel Gamboa Pérez-Pardo. Pedro Armas congratulated the great work of Juan Miguel Cubas in the creation of "this work so symbolic of the effort, sacrifice and dedication that these workers have shown." Gamboa Pérez-Pardo thanked the Pájara City Council for the invitation and assured that he shares with the mayor and the population the feeling towards the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of Morro Jable.
