The president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, today presented the landscaping project for the Maspalomas palm grove, in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, financed with 6,8 million euros, of which 2,2 are contributed by the island Corporation and 4,6 by the City Council, and promoted by the Consortium for the Tourist Rehabilitation of Maspalomas. "It is a transcendental work, a reference for the municipality, for the Island and for the entire Canary Islands, for those who visit us, for the men and women of Gran Canaria, and, above all, it is fundamental for the environment," said the island president. .
Antonio Morales, who was accompanied by the mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and president of the Consortium, Conchi Narváez, and by the Councilor for Urban Planning, Samuel Henríquez, declared that this initiative "allows us to demonstrate that, in the heart of the tourist area, "They can keep natural spaces alive and the possibilities that the protected environment has to also promote a diversified offer, with values, for the people who visit us."
The action, which will be carried out by the company Tragsa, will be carried out on approximately 90.000 square meters of surface, where work will be done on the recovery of native vegetation, trails, fencing, viewpoints and rest areas, and A bio-healthy route will be designed, a fun and informative children's area, an interpretation center of the history of the palm grove and the accesses and tourist areas will be integrated.
"It will be a continuity of the Tony Gallardo Park, with which, in the heart of Maspalomas, there will be almost 200.000 square meters available, which can be used in a regulated manner, which will be a reference for the natural values of Gran Canaria," stated the President Morales. "An area that speaks of how public institutions are capable of agreeing to promote a project that protects, rehabilitates and preserves a space and makes it available for the good use of citizens," he explained.
More than 30 million investment in the municipality
Morales recalled that, at the beginning of this mandate, the island Government and the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council proposed to break old inertia that had opened gaps in their collaboration, in order to advance the strategic objective of improving the conditions of the infrastructure. and equipment, and to renew the public spaces of the most important tourist development area of Gran Canaria, "for which the Maspalomas Tourism Consortium proposed and has been promoted," he added.
"We agreed, we developed an itinerary, the Council sought the resources so that the Consortium had the necessary economic means to advance in that strategic line. And, during this time, we have developed public policies with direct investments in the municipality greater than 30 million euros," he stressed.
Thus, as detailed, action has been taken, among other spaces, in the Tony Gallardo Park, which has been rehabilitated by the insular Institution on three occasions and is now available to citizens; in the second phase of the ambitious 'More dunes' plan, which has been developed with the collaboration of the city council; in the GC 500, in the Paseo de Meloneras, in the Ethnographic Museum of El Faro, in the municipal swimming pool of San Fernando, in the improvement of different sports facilities throughout the municipality and in the lighting, in the leisure area of Castillo del Romeral, on various asphalt surfaces, in the Municipal Market, in actions in the archaeological heritage and in industrial and commercial areas. "Projects that we consider strategic not only for San Bartolomé de Tirajana, but for the entire Island," concluded Morales.
Conchi Narváez, for her part, also emphasized the achievement of the reactivation of the Consortium, providing it with sufficient personnel and financial resources so that it has been able to work and obtain very important results for the municipality. Thus, he highlighted this project to condition the Maspalomas palm grove, "which means giving continuity to a space as relevant as the Tony Gallardo Park and being able to talk about an observatory, to better understand the birds and vegetation, as well as the dunes of Maspalomas, and enable areas to practice outdoor activities," stressed the mayor, who also announced the undertaking of a new project in the Maspalomas Ravine, "we intend to provide the City Council and the Tourist Consortium with all the vegetation it needs."
In turn, Samuel Hernández explained that the local government has fulfilled its objective of converting the Maspalomas Tourism Consortium into a strategic instrument for the municipality. "This is a milestone that defines the effort made by the Consortium in the last four years, in which around 20 million euros have been invested," said the Urban Planning councillor. "This is, along with the Maspalomas Market, one of the star projects and it has been a participatory work," he explained, "in which civil society, business and the University have been included, to guarantee that the investment is carried out in the best possible way".
