Newport wants a Dreamland in Maspalomas to stop Blas Herrero in Tenerife

The vice president of the Canarian Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Las Palmas, José Antonio Newport, has launched an agenda to look for land in the south of Gran Canaria to develop the Dreamland training plan after the failure of the project in Fuerteventura and that Blas Herrero, owner of Kiss FM wants to do the same in Tenerife with the support of the PSOE. In Tenerife, the project sponsored by Blas Herrero and the Kiss Media group aims to create 15.000 jobs in the film industry.

The Cabildo of Gran Canaria is developing a city based on audiovisual projects in Las Palmas at the Infecar facilities. Last February, the Plenary Session of the Canary Islands Parliament approved a Non-Law Proposal (PNL) presented by Sí Podemos, CC-PNC and PP in which a regulatory review of the land law is requested in relation to the declaration procedure of the projects of insular and regional interest. Francisco Déniz, regional deputy, maintains that Dreamland is a "tourist leisure" project and that the island does not need studios "like those in Hollywood."

According to Diario de Fuerteventura, Newport companies "have received 23 million euros of public subsidies, only from the institutions of the autonomous community, in just three years. Six of them, dedicated to training courses, accumulate the majority of these funds public: 21,9 million between 2019 and 2021, according to data from the Transparency Commissioner of the Canary Islands.

The same media maintains that "within the Newport Group there are six training companies that appear on the Transparency lists, which are either managed by the businessman himself or by a direct family member. These are Escuela Superior de Enseñanza Fuerteventura, Fuerteventura 2000, Hotel Escuela El "Mirador, European Hospitality School, Canary Islands Hospitality and Tourism Center, and European Vocational Training for Employment. All of them appear grouped under the NFORMAR brand, which is actually a commercial name of one of the aforementioned companies."
