Outrage in networks with the Tourism Law of 2017

The viralization of a video recounting the beginning of sanctions on apartment owners in tourist areas has sparked a wave of criticism and mobilizations

Many Canarians have begun to learn about the 2017 Tourism Law five years after its approval. This is due to the viralization of a shared video this weekend by local news services on his Twitter profile. This video includes statements from members of the Platform of People Affected by the Tourism Law in which they assure that the right to private property is being violated by sanctioning apartment owners in tourist areas who use said property as a residence or second residence.

This section of the law, which allows anyone who resides in holiday homes in tourist areas of the archipelago after 2017 to be punished, has provoked an online mobilization in which more than a thousand users have shown in every way possible their indignation with the news and with the law itself, which many have learned about following the publication. The video has already accumulated more than two million views and nearly two thousand responses, the vast majority showing disbelief and discomfort.

“We better give the islands to tourists and go live by the sea”“Guiris go home” and even political debates and Comparisons between communist and capitalist systems are some of the responses that can be seen to the brief informative clip, whose interaction figures increase by the minute, hosting debates and explanations about a Tourism Law that, after five years, begins to be known and debated by the inhabitants of the archipelago.
