On April 18 and 19, 2023, the 'Coordination of well-being and protection' sessions will take place. A challenge and an opportunity for educational centers, organized by this Ministry and the Convives association.
It so happens that the city council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, through its Department of Education, is a pioneer in the country in promoting different actions on emotional well-being in its network of educational centers, experiences that will be announced at the aforementioned conferences. , led by the Education technician, María Esther Morales.
Emotional well-being has not always been a priority in our educational system. Organic Law 2/2006 of May 3 on Education (LOE) began to explicitly highlight the importance of emotional education, since it considered educational centers as privileged institutions to promote the well-being of children and adolescents.
Welfare and protection coordinator
The figure of the well-being and protection coordinator appears for the first time in the modifications established by Organic Law 3/2020, of December 29 (LOMLOE). This figure and its functions have been specified in the Law for the Comprehensive Protection of Children and Adolescents against Violence (LOPIVI). This law establishes that all educational centers where minors study must have a student welfare and protection coordinator, who has, among others, the function of coordinating the coexistence plan with the center's management.
Since the course following the publication of LOMLOE, this figure has begun to be implemented in educational centers, however, it is necessary to take into account and take advantage of the experience accumulated over the years in the development of Coexistence Plans.
Thus, this need to incorporate keys to well-being into school coexistence becomes an opportunity to work collaboratively and in a participatory manner with all sectors of the educational community.
Promote emotional well-being
The Ministry is carrying out different actions during this school year to improve and promote emotional well-being in educational centers. In this regard, it is worth mentioning the Emotional well-being program in the educational fieldor, territorial cooperation program whose objective is to help cover the care needs that students may show in the fields of emotional well-being and mental health from the perspective of educational intervention.
More recently, the Ministry has published the Coordinator Guide or coordinator of well-being and protection in the school communityExternal link, opens in new window, as a reference framework for this figure, where its functions are explained and how it can carry out planning, prevention, detection, information and training.
Tables on experiences in centers
For its part, the Convives Association has a long history of school coexistence, and is characterized, among other issues, by betting on participation in its educational proposals. These proposals are based on the basis that the best ideas about coexistence and well-being can be useless if they are designed and implemented outside of the people for whom they are intended.
The scheduled sessions aim to:
· Promote a meeting with all sectors of the educational community in the primary and secondary stages to think together about well-being in schools.
· Give voice to good practices carried out in numerous educational centers and communities, in a simple, positive, effective and sustainable way.
· Identify the key elements and processes that articulate the centers' Wellbeing Plans.
- Weave a network of professionals, students, families and municipalities to promote coexistence and well-being in the community.
jThe events will feature several tables of experiences from educational centers from different places in Spain. We will talk about building well-being by listening to the educational community, well-being and coexistence, and the vision of well-being in a holistic way. Finally, a proposal will be presented to develop the coordination of well-being and protection.
Registration will be open until 14:00 p.m. on April 18.
