'Decarbonization of the destination. Canary Green' an AMTC project

Endowed with eight million euros from the Next Generation Funds, part of four lines of action

The Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands celebrates the closing Assembly of its mandate in Mogán

 

The Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC) launches the 'Decarbonization of the destination' project. Canary Green', endowed with eight million euros from the Next Generation Funds. New step to make a project long pursued by the AMTC a reality and is part of the Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destination.

 

The AMTC held in Mogán this Tuesday the last Assembly of the legislature that is now ending, where the launch of the 'Canary Green' project was reported, which will bring important benefits to the 13 destinations, contributing to their transformation and modernization. . 

 

The project, whose bidding is underway, will be implemented following four lines of action. The first two in a first phase through pilot projects in different municipalities, and then in a second phase they will be transferred to the rest of the destinations. The other two axes will be transversal and will be applied in all municipalities at the same time.

 

Axis 1 is the green and sustainable transition, axis 2 is the improvement of energy efficiency, 3 will be the digital transition and 4 will be competitiveness, thus providing answers to the demands of institutions, residents, tourists and companies. 

 

The Assembly held in Mogán took the opportunity to take stock of the work carried out in the last four years. The El Mocán Cultural Center was the setting chosen in this case to hold this closing meeting of the mandate.

José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, in an appearance before the media prior to the Assembly, explained that “four unique years are left behind, a stage that began with the bankruptcy of Thomas Cook, which was nothing compared to what came later, with the pandemic. and zero tourism.”

 

“The Association has advanced as a body of dialogue. We have lived through a time with good harmony with the Ministry, a real novelty. A line has been opened with the destinations,” added the president of the AMTC and mayor of Adeje.  

“We have made progress in generating tourist awareness. This activity is the economic engine of the Canary Islands and we must take care of tourism. Assuming that we are a sun and beach destination, then giving it added value. We want the wealth of tourism to reach our people as well,” said Rodríguez Fraga at another time.

 

In relation to objectives still pending to be achieved, the president explained that “work continues on the financing of tourist municipalities. We must continue moving forward on this path. The definition of a tourist municipality is still pending.”

 

“The union of the AMTC is one of our strengths and it must remain that way if we want to move forward,” added José Miguel Rodríguez.

For her part, Onalia Bueno, mayor of Mogán and vice president of the AMTC, spoke about the problems raised around the application of the Tourism Law, pointing out that “we are in favor of changing it in the next legislature, always through dialogue, listening to all parties.”
