Something that people don't remember. Every May it is known which blue flags the south of Gran Canaria has for the quality of its beaches. In less than a month it will be known whether or not the south of Gran Canaria recovers these distinctions. Since 1990, the south of Gran Canaria had blue flags from the European Federation of Environmental Education (FEEE) on the beaches of San Agustín, El Inglés and Las Meloneras, the Pasito Blanco Marina and the Las Dunas Interpretation Center.
In 2022, the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council was notified by the ADEAC that the 2022 Blue Flag Jury had decided not to award the award to Maspalomas beach. According to the notification, the reason is “the existence of a sanctioning file for the construction of a 70-meter breakwater without having the necessary permit.”
The beach has access for people with reduced mobility, with renovated information panels, with renovated showers and footbaths. But a complaint generated that disciplinary file.
