In Las Palmas they still think that in the south of Gran Canaria we don't know anything about tourism. From Gando Airport to the capital of the island they call it the new Meliá hotel, but its owner is really someone else, a bank: Bankinter. In its new repositioning, Bankinter has invested 50 million euros, drawing on its large clients. The establishment is owned by Victoria Hotels & Resorts, an Alternative Investment vehicle that Bankinter Investment launched in 2021, managed by Meliá Hotels International, as long-term manager and operator of the hotels, and GMA, as managing partner of the vehicle. It is something similar to the old IFA hotels in Lopesan, they are now owned by Blackstone but the hotel firm of the López Santana family manages them for their client after selling them.
The financial vehicle allowed the bank's institutional and high-net-worth clients the possibility of converting with Bankinter and its two partners into one of the most relevant sectors for Canarian tourism since in the hotel sector it owns a Labranda in Mogán. The repositioning and investment plans in the acquired hotel portfolio were one of the great strengths of the agreement. These investments and relaunches are the basis that are expected to generate value and exceptional and unique attributes to the assets to maximize their profitability and the degree of satisfaction of their current and future customers. Specifically, 50 million euros have been invested in said Paradisus Gran Canaria hotel in its repositioning for the enjoyment and attraction of its clients.
The hotels included in the Victoria Hotels & Resorts vehicle in the Canary Islands are: Meliá Tamarindos and Meliá Salinas in Lanzarote. Bankinter Investment is the Investment Banking area of Bankinter and has promoted an important alternative investment platform that has become a benchmark in the market.
In recent years, it has launched, together with expert managers in various sectors, 20 successful alternative investment vehicles (funds) with a committed capital of more than 4.000 million euros. For asset management, in all vehicles, it has followed the model of partnering with a company that is an expert in the investment segment of each fund or SOCIMI, such as renewable energies, the hotel sector, student residences, infrastructure, commercial areas, logistics, private equity and venture capital. Additionally, in the first quarter of 2023, the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) registered the first delegated alternative investment management fund of the new manager, which will allow entry to individual investors with minimum amounts of 10.000 euros.
