MASPALOMAS24H Thursday, May 04, 2023

Today, the ADEAC has notified the Department of Attention and Care of the Coast of the decision made by the Blue Flags 2023 jury.

The beaches of San Agustín, Meloneras, Playa del Inglés and Faro de Maspalomas, located in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, have fully recovered their blue flags. The Environmental and Consumer Education Association (ADEAC) has officially notified the government area of Attention and Care of the Coast, headed by Samuel Henríquez Quintana, of the achievement of the award for these four beaches.

The 2023 Blue Flag Jury has granted recognition to the beaches of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, including Maspalomas beach. This news is the result of the work and transformation carried out on the coastline of all the beaches in the municipality, thanks to the work of the coastal security and surveillance bodies, as well as the coastal and public space cleaning workers.

Accessibility to the beaches has been improved with the installation of walkways that facilitate access for people with reduced mobility and have canopies to protect them from the sun. In addition, containers and new bins for selective garbage collection have been installed at all accesses to the different beaches.

Other actions carried out to recover the blue flags include the rehabilitation of the footbaths and showers, the installation of stainless steel railings on the access stairs and the replacement of the information panels on the beaches with others with updated information, new maps and pictograms of each of them with the most relevant information.

The councilor responsible for Attention and Care of the Coast, Samuel Henríquez Quintana, celebrates “the recovery of the blue flags on the beaches of the municipality and highlights the commitment of the council to the maintenance and continuity of the work that has been carried out in this legislature on our coastline. Proof of this is this award, which in addition to flying on our beaches, is the reward for what we once defended and conveyed to the residents of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.”

In the words of the mayor, Concepción Narváez Vega, “it is undoubtedly great news for San Bartolomé de Tirajana that we have recovered the Blue Flags on the beaches of Maspalomas, San Agustín and Meloneras. It is the result of several years of work, which is why we have adapted these spaces on our coast to the demanding criteria requested by ADEAC Blue Flag Spain, both in terms of the environment, the quality of its waters and sand, health services, first aid, access for people with reduced mobility and others. Today our first point of attraction, our beaches, once again show off this distinction that prestiges our tourism brand and is an example of sustainability and safety.”
