Training sessions on hate crimes for the LGTBI community for Security Forces and Corps begin in Mogán

This Monday, October 18, the second 'ASERPPOL Day' has begun:

Advice and training on diversity for security forces', which affects hate crimes against the LGTBI community. The activity will take place until next Friday the 22nd and its official opening was attended by the head of the National Office to Fight Hate Crimes, belonging to the Secretary of State of the Ministry of the Interior, Tomás Fernández Villazala, and the mayor of Mogán, Onalia Well, the subdelegate of the Government in Las Palmas, María Teresa Mayans, the representative of LGTBIPOL, Begoña Gallego, and the president of Equal LGTBI+, Emma Colao. 

 

 

These training sessions are organized by the Equal LGTBI+ association in collaboration with LGTBIPOL and the Mogán City Council. They are held at the Gloria Palace Royal Hotel in Amadores and are attended by members of the Local Police, National Police, Civil Guard and others. In total more than 90 agents have registered and will participate distributed in groups until this Friday.

 

Before the troops present, Mayor Bueno was in charge of welcoming and emphasizing how important and necessary it is for public administrations to support actions like these that give the Security Forces and Corps the knowledge and appropriate tools to identify crimes. of hatred towards the LGTBI+ community and provide quality service to victims. “When they presented the possibility of Mogán leading this project, we did not hesitate to participate. We emphasize once again the importance and need to empathize and put ourselves in the shoes of the victims who are suffering this type of aggression,” she noted.

 

In the same sense, Fernández Villazala expressed himself: “Conferences like this seek greater specialization in the matter to know how to identify hate crimes, prosecute all their forms and, above all, protect freedom and human rights, he noted. Finally, Emma Colao, who thanked the Security Forces for their interest and stated that “it is vital that this training be promoted, since they are the

main contact that the group has with justice when a hate crime occurs.”

 

Likewise, Colao introduced the speakers who are teaching the training from today. On the one hand, Begoña Gallego Luis, president of LGTBIOL (Agents of the Diversity Authority), who will work with the agents on the framework of police intervention on specific hate crimes against the LGTBI+ group. Nuria Vega, Equality agent and coordinator of the Social Welfare area of ​​Equal LGTBI+, also participates, who will influence the study of effective sexual and gender diversity, as well as Colao herself, who focuses on the legal and regulatory framework applied and the Trans Canarian Law, recently approved.  

 

After the opening ceremony, which was also attended by the first deputy mayor and councilor for Citizen Security, Mencey Navarro, the councilor for Social Services, Tania Alonso, and the councilor for Tourism, Alba Medina; The training days began. These will be closed in the presence of the Government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, on Friday afternoon.
