A powerful storm threatens the archipelago

CRISTIAN SANCHEZ Saturday, June 03, 2023

The islands are preparing for a change in trend that could leave heavy rains in the archipelago starting this weekend.

The Canary Islands are preparing for an adverse weather front next week, with a notable increase in cloudiness and a high probability of rain. This alteration in the climate is due to the formation of a storm in the Atlantic Ocean, the effects of which are expected to extend to the Canary Islands, as well as Madeira and the Azores. The activation of warnings is being considered due to the current situation, although everything will depend on how the Atlantic front evolves in the coming days.

The Aemet meteorologist, JJ González Alemán, explained this anomaly in a tweet, pointing out that it is an atmospheric dynamic more typical of winter and confirming that it is a powerful storm. It is quite likely that this situation will materialize upon reaching the archipelago.

In fact, on Tuesday there is a 60% chance of rain in Gran Canaria.
