Nueva Canarias strengthened its presence in the municipality with a resounding and surprising victory in Ingenio
The southeast of Gran Canaria likes green. No, it is not a reference to the emergence of VOX in the three town councils that make up the commonwealth (although it could be), but to the resounding victory of Nueva Canarias in Santa Lucía de Tirajana and Ingenio, where the PSOE had been sweeping for four decades.
The electoral maps of Santa Lucía and Ingenio in the last 28M elections are painted green from top to bottom. There is not a single neighborhood or street in both municipalities where Nueva Canarias has not been the most voted option by its neighbors. In Santa Lucía, after the drift of the AV-PP coalition in the campaign, new success was expected for Francisco García, something he confirmed by obtaining two more councilors than in 2019, which allows him the luxury of choosing a government partner between PSOE and Strength.
In Ingenio, the trend has changed drastically with an electoral map very similar to that of Santa Lucía de Tirajana where the green of Nueva Canarias predominates, which ran alongside Forum Drago in this municipality. Such has been the superiority of the nationalist force in Ingenio, that José López Fabelo has already reached an agreement with PP-Somos to be the next mayor of the Cochinero municipality.
In Agüimes they don't send colors, they send names; specifically one: Óscar Hernández. The mayor of Agüimes has once again gained the trust of the residents and won the elections widely, achieving an absolute majority with 14 councilors. The “negative point” for Óscar Hernández and Roque Aguayro has been the loss of two councilors compared to the 2019 elections, where they obtained 16.
Regarding participation, there are figures that far exceed 50% in the three municipalities, highlighting 73,97% in the town of Santa Lucía de Tirajana and 66,78% in the upper area of Agüimes.
