FTI Group has not prioritized Maspalomas in its agenda for winter 2023 to increase its presence in Greece due to high demand. High demand from Greece, Crete and Rhodes in particular has led Munich-based FTI Group to strengthen its presence in 2023, adding winter flight connections and increasing the portfolio of inbound agency Meeting Point Hellas.
With its tourism brands, FTI is the third largest tour operator in Europe. Its brands include FTI Touristik, last minute provider 5vorFlug, car rental agency Drive FTI, destination management company Meeting Point International, as well as a number of hotel lines. FTI short and medium haul product director Jan Mayer said this week that demand for holidays on the Greek islands was higher compared to before Covid 2019. “Therefore, we will extend the 2023 summer season with selected hotel partners in Crete and Rhodes until mid-November,” he said.
In Crete, the group offers 350 weekly connections from 50 airports in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and the Netherlands. FTI held its annual Touristik Vertriebsgesellschaft (TVG) conference on the island last month. Halina Strzyzewska, director of strategic destinations for Greece at FTI, said the company would increase flight capacity in the autumn to meet growing demand.
In addition to Crete, FTI also plans to boost connections to smaller islands such as Zakynthos and Skiathos and take advantage of the Araxos airport in the Peloponnese, to accommodate tourism to Olympia and Patra. Europe's third largest tour operator with subsidiaries in Austria, Switzerland, France and the Netherlands, FTI Group employs more than 11.000 people worldwide.
