The European consulting firm Codexca has once again managed to place sustainability in the south of Gran Canaria on the EU's priority agenda. The ImpulsaMaspalomas plan developed together with the Cabildo of Gran Canaria has been selected as a key element for the tourist diversification of the south of the island. Therefore, through this plan, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria seeks to improve the resilience of the destination in the medium and long term by promoting new tourism products that use these spaces as elements of attraction.
The proposal also includes a series of measures aimed at promoting sustainability and digital transformation such as: enabling a new bike lane, reducing energy and water consumption, urban drainage actions, deployment of sensors, installation of information screens or actions to improve the business model of SMEs in the sector. All of them, together, will allow us to renew the image of the destination and, therefore, reinforce its positioning within the national and international market.
This is a commitment to diversification that encourages the arrival of new tourism segments that prioritize activities and attitudes with low environmental impact and that allow for the generation of a greater volume and distribution of tourism income. To this end, Codexca has helped the Cabildo of Gran Canaria in the presentation of the Tourism Sustainability Plan “ImpulsaMaspalomas”, which has recently been selected within the framework of the Tourism Sustainability Plans Program, launched by the Secretary of State for Tourism of the Ministry of Tourism. Industry, Commerce and Tourism with Next Generation funds. The tourist area of Maspalomas has been chosen to access funds to generate cultural tourism, such as the Maspalomas Lighthouse and its Ethnographic Center or the Punta Mujeres Archaeological Site; and natural tourism, such as the Protected Natural Space of Las Dunas de Maspalomas and the Sebadales of Playa del Inglés.
