Marco Aurelio Pérez has once again picked up the baton of command and has been appointed mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana after the signing of the government pact with the Canary Coalition a few days ago. This will be his fifth term, having held the position for 12 years in different stages, with an absolute majority between 2011 and 2019.
The new city council is made up of 14 councilors from the bipartite government group (seven from the PP-AV and seven from CC) and 11 councilors from the opposition (six from the PSOE and five from Nueva Canarias). The new mayor has stated that his objectives during his term will be to reorganize the local structure, improve public services, build a nursing home, expand the Meloneras hospital and develop tourist and sports infrastructure, among others.
The government agreement sends the opposition to the PSOE and Nueva Canarias, who were previously part of the government group along with a Ciudadanos councilor, Inés Rodríguez, who did not participate in the 28M elections. After the signing of the agreement, Marco Aurelio Pérez and Alejandro Marichal, leaders of the pact forces, announced the distribution of council offices.
Elena Álamo will be in charge of the Human Resources and Local Development Agency departments, while Esther Delgado will be responsible for Culture, Education, Youth, Social Action, and Equality. Ramón Suárez will assume responsibility for Sports and Transportation, and José Carlos Álamo will manage the Security and Emergency Services. Eduardo Armas will be in charge of Roads and Public Works, Parks and Gardens, and Health, while Araceli Armas will take over Commerce and Agriculture following Yurena Tejera's resignation , as she was unable to balance her political and professional life.
On the Canarian Coalition side, Alejandro Marichal will assume the first position of mayor and the Urban Planning and Housing councillors, but has decided to delegate those responsibilities to Davinia Ramírez and Lucía Jiménez. Yilenia Vega will be responsible for the areas of Tourism, Celebrations and Events, while Alexis Moreno will manage the departments of Economy and Finance. Ruymán Cardoso will direct Beach Cleaning, Street Cleaning and Public Buildings, while Dimas de la Cruz will be in charge of Social Services.
