This is a joint action carried out in the month of April by the Environmental Group (GRUMA) of the General Corps of the Canarian Police and agents of the Environmental Group of the Mediation and Coexistence Unit (UMEC) of the Capital Local Police within the functions of environmental protection that both security forces have been carrying out.
The police investigation began in March, after a Local Police agent detected that someone had abandoned a total of 14 fiber bathtubs in the middle of the San Lorenzo ravine in the capital of Gran Canaria, an area whose soil is protected by its agricultural value.
Next to the bathtubs, the agents found several packages of a shower tray marketed by a well-known company that sells construction materials based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Telde, a vestige that would become the key piece of the investigation.

The Local Police requested information from said company about the clients who had recently purchased said product, finding a purchase of 25 shower trays by someone who turned out to be the administrator of a well-known tourist company with hotels on the islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Fuerteventura.
Under the suspicion that the abandoned bathtubs could come from a renovation that was being carried out in one of the premises of said hotel chain, the Local Police requested the collaboration of the General Corps of the Canarian Police to carry out an inspection in one of the hotel premises. located in the municipality of Mogán.
The inspection carried out by the Autonomous Police officers served to verify that a reform was indeed being carried out that included the replacement of the bathtubs and that their characteristics fully coincided with those found in the San Lorenzo ravine. Furthermore, the hotel company could not prove what purpose it was giving to the bathtubs it had replaced, information that it has a legal obligation to make available to the police forces.
However, the investigative work carried out by the Canary Islands Police officers also served to verify that other materials were being replaced, such as curtains with very peculiar characteristics that they had observed weeks before in a macro-dump carried out in a space near the Vargas beach. municipality of Agüimes, on land protected for its landscape value.
For this reason, the agents returned to Vargas to carry out a thorough inspection of the macro-dump, and were able to find various materials such as sheets and curtains that contained labels with the hotel's commercial name, in addition to another 14 bathtubs with similar characteristics to those found in the San Lorenzo ravine. .
For all this, the Canarian Police and the Local Police have filed a complaint against the businessman for the commission of the discharges in the municipalities of Agüimes and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for which he must face fines of up to 100.000 euros, in addition to the obligation to restitute the environmental damage caused.
