Moisés Rivero, a Gran Canarian who recently graduated from the Gran Canaria School of Art and Design and who, as a young talent, is counting on the support of the Moda Cálida program promoted by the island institution, has been selected as a finalist in the international competition 'The Link' that organizes the Italian MarediModa fair for students or recent graduates in the swimwear, underwear or atheleisure categories. He will now be able to present a prototype with the fabrics that the organization sends him and, eventually, parade in Cannes next November where the winner will be decided.
“Being in that shortlist of finalists is already a great achievement because everyone will have coverage in the media that collaborate with this Fair, which is the most important in swimwear fashion in Europe, so we have to congratulate Rivero for this and as you already know, You will have the support of the program at every step since one of our big bets currently is precisely the internationalization of our firms,” the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Crafts, Minerva Alonso, stated in this regard.
For the contest, Rivero presented the sketches of six bathroom pieces, two for men and four for women, inspired by Monet's impressionism and his approach to nature, as well as the island of Gran Canaria itself, its coasts and its light. , in the wind and water, with prints in blue tones that express delicacy in contrast to the strength of the sea, and in which Rivero wanted to simulate the bubbles of the foam of the waves or the sun and the vegetation through yellows and greens. As for the fabrics that he proposes to use, they are lycra and, since the firm is committed to the environment, the desire is for them to have ecological certificates. Light blue tulle and white foam lining will also be used.
In this talent search contest organized and promoted by MarediModa the technical jury has evaluated more than one hundred works, and now four talents for each of the three reference areas will be the ones to receive the fabrics - supplied by the MarediModa companies -, and put themselves to the test with the collection they have presented by creating a prototype. Only three from each category will be protagonists in Cannes with a stand and a fashion show.
“I presented myself with the aim of making myself known as a young designer outside the Island, I have only been there for a year but in Italy swimwear is very powerful and it seemed like a perfect market to me,” stated Rivero, who is “very satisfied.” with this result since "whoever wins, I will have the possibility of being with international brands and having diffusion in their media and furthermore, it is a sign that although I have been doing things well for a very short time," he assures.
Currently, the designs of MR&G Design, as their firm is called, can be purchased online or through social networks, and physically in El Pasaje de Francia, on Mesa y López Avenue in the capital of Gran Canaria.
