The Ministry of Ecological Transition has until July 14 to oppose the installation of a wind farm by an industrial company in Madrid that, once the process has been completed, would most certainly transfer the license to a system operator or share the yields obtained from the southern coast of Gran Canaria at the expense of the turbidity that would affect artisanal fishing.
Legally, the park will be located in Santa Lucía de Tirajana but the condition will obviously have an impact on the south of the island. For now, the central government referred it to the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council but no residents have been consulted. The only environmental group asked is from Tenerife. It is a 300 megawatt wind farm promoted by Abei Energy Infrastructure. Consultations began on March 22, 2023.
On the other hand, in the south of the island there are operations such as Greenalia, which plans 50MW with a net capacity factor close to 60%, a key aspect for the stability of the electrical system. A potential project to be presented to the Next Generation Funds within the Renewable PERTE. Greenalia estimates a total investment for the Gofio PE of between 175 and 200 million euros (between 800 and 950 for the 5 parks under development in Gran Canaria) of which an amount of between 60 and 100 million euros (of 300 and 500 million euros in the case of the 5 projects) for national and Canarian companies and the mobilization of some 800-850 jobs (direct and indirect) for each of the 5 projects currently under development.
