The government group of the south of Gran Canaria, formed by AV-PP and CC, does not want to miss out on the cleaning service for the south of the island, awarded at the time to FCC Medio Ambiente after Urbaser's stay of 20 years serving the beaches and urban areas of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
That contract was a matter for AV-PP, but it could not follow up because Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez's party went into opposition. Since then, neither PSOE nor NC have been able to put on a trip a service that, to a large extent, has led to the departure of the PSOE from power.
The thing is that the absence of controls has been counteracted with contracts for personnel that have not served to strengthen the service. The company that manages all this is Mexican and is controlled not from Las Palmas as in the past but from Malaga, that is, a destination that competes in the sun and beach and Nordic business market with the south of the island.
There are at least three companies that have expressed their availability to assume the service in view of the deficiencies that could be detected from the new control audit by the corporation resulting from the May 28 elections: Azatia, which has as partner in Cointer and origin in Tunte, Prezero, owned by the owners of Lidl and previously owned by Ferrovial Servicios, and Pérez Moreno, owners of the Beberly Park hotel in El Veril.
The three companies have roots in the south of the island and Prezero and Pérez Moreno already manage the South Ecopark in Juan Grande. The latter could generate an alleged abuse of a dominant position. For its part, Azatia manages waste and green areas in the southeast of Gran Canaria and Mogán. Urbaser, for its part, after losing Maspalomas closed its office on the island to base everything in Tenerife, where it manages an island waste management park with FCC.
