About 140 swimmers, some federated and the vast majority amateurs, participated this Thursday in the 'First Margullo', the swimming trip that welcomes summer at Arinaga Beach. On a pleasant afternoon of temperature, with little waves and almost no wind, it only took the athletes about ten minutes – even a little less for the first ones – to cover the nearly 500 meters that separate El Muelle from the Los Barquillos area, where the the goal of this non-competitive event organized by the Agüimes City Council.
Upon arrival, a drink and a plate of paella were waiting for them to regain their strength, as well as music from the Tata Band, who together with the Batucada Makana were in charge of the musical entertainment. The large audience that gathered on the promenade needed few chords to start dancing and enjoy the great atmosphere, on a very busy late night in Playa de Arinaga, as the event coincided with the celebration of the 'Noche de Pinchos' in the Stowaway Avenue.
The peculiarity of this 'First Margullo' of Playa de Arinaga was once again its popular and relaxed nature, without the usual pressure of competition. Only the reward of swimming in the sea for pure pleasure and in an atmosphere of total camaraderie, a party for all participants that has become the ideal prelude to the Night of San Juan on the coast of the municipality of Agüimes. It is also the starting signal for the agenda of sports activities that will take place in Arinaga Bay during the months of July, August and September.
