The XXXI Summer University of Maspalomas, with the collaboration of the Association of Deaf People of Las Palmas, has organized, from July 17 to 21, the 'Initiation to Spanish Sign Language' Workshop. Approach to the deaf community', which will be held at the Carmelo Pérez Rodríguez Cultural Center (El Tablero).

The Association of Deaf People of Las Palmas, with 66 years of experience and more than 25 years in teaching Spanish Sign Language (LSE), is the representative entity of the group in Gran Canaria. Currently, with a structure headed by the State Confederation of Deaf People (CNSE), the National Network for the teaching of sign languages, offers a wide range of services for the teaching of LSE throughout the national territory. Its work is focused on raising awareness of the needs of the group of deaf people and organizing actions to disseminate Sign Language.
People who participate in this practical workshop will be able to acquire basic communicative knowledge in LSE, which will allow them to communicate basic and direct with deaf signers, in addition to learning about the social reality of the group of deaf people in the Canary Islands.
Classes will be taught by deaf teachers who have professional qualifications and experience in LSE teaching, as well as hearing teachers who are highly qualified in LSE teaching.
