Carmen de Arguineguín Festival Program
The Councilor for the Presidency, Tania Alonso, and the Councilor for Culture and Celebrations, Mencey Santana, presented this morning the Carmen de Arguineguín Festival, which will take place from July 7 to 16. They have done it together with the parish priest Juan Antonio Artiles and Juan Álamo Álamo, known as Aito, the protagonist along with the image of the patron saint of the sea on the cover of the program of events in tribute to his involvement with these celebrations.
Alonso, in the presentation held near Las Marañuelas beach in the seaside town, expressed his gratitude to the residents, groups, the parish community and the Fishermen's Guild for their collaboration with the Mogán City Council in these celebrations, which aim to be a meeting point and enjoyment for both residents and visitors.
“You will find a very varied program, where you can enjoy as a family and in which everyone has a place,” he said, highlighting the presence of neighbor Juan Álamo Álamo, popularly known as Aito, on the cover of the program of events. He was a carpenter like his also renowned father, Manuel Álamo, who gives his name to the avenue that borders the Arguineguín Dock. Aito has always been characterized by his faithful fervor for the Virgin of Carmen, to such an extent that processions in the town are not conceivable if he does not guide the image through the streets.
"He is a dedicated man who donated gold jewelry to the image of the Virgin of Carmen located in the Pier to ask for health for his family, and for many years he was in charge of decorating it with flowers and even making new cloaks for the Virgin, with the help from neighbors when the money was not enough,” said the councilor. Aito will also be recognized in the presence of his family and neighbors next Wednesday, July 12 at 21:30 p.m. in the Plaza de Las Marañuelas.
Alonso highlighted as a novelty the return of the Gastronomy Fair, an event that he assured “the neighbors were very eager for, and that had been diluted more than twenty years ago.” Likewise, he reported that the neighbor Juan Pedro Trujillo will be recognized posthumously, of whom he has said "he was a person always involved in decorating his portal during these Holidays, receiving several awards for it." He has also highlighted that this year El Carmen will enjoy an 'end of the holidays' concert, just as the residents demanded. It will be with the well-known folkloric group Los Faycanes on July 16.
For his part, the Councilor for Culture and Celebrations, Mencey Santana, has reported in detail about the programming to the media, neighbors and other local government councilors present there. In addition, he took advantage of the occasion to request that those who attend the Pilgrimage-Offering to the Virgin of Carmen do so correctly dressed in traditional clothing, and urge them to enjoy this and the rest of the events responsibly. He also reported that the program of events for the Playa de Mogán Fiestas del Carmen will soon be presented, which will begin once those in Arguineguín end.
