The Patron Saint Festivities of Santiago and San Bartolomé in Tunte to the rhythm of Bertín Osborne and Tony Tun Tun

The Church of Tunte announced this morning the beginning of the Patron Saint Festivities of Santiago Apóstol and San Bartolomé with a ringing of bells that brought together the neighbors in the Plaza, to learn about the religious and festive events that this year has been organized by the Department of Celebrations and Events of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council with the collaboration of the Santiago El Chico Cultural Association. 

 

The presentation of the program was led by the mayor of the municipality, Marco Aurelio Pérez; the Councilor for Celebrations and Events, Yilenia Vega; and the president of the Santiago El Chico Cultural Association, Ismael Guerra. In the words of the mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, “the program worked on this year was born with the perspective of recovering the participation of the people and bringing together family, visitors and friends.” Pérez indicated that they already have their sights set on 2027, which will once again be the Jacobean Holy Year, so “the work that is being launched today will be important so that 2027 is not just another stage, but represents the path that allows the relaunch of the figure of Santiago, the Camino de Santiago and the Holy Door for the town of Tunte and for our municipality.” 

 

For her part, the Councilor for Celebrations and Events, Yilenia Vega, highlighted that the importance of these Patron Saint Festivals is that with them “traditions are made known while our customs and culture are valued, which is essential to keep our heritage alive.” The councilor highlighted that this year a program has been included where children will have more prominence, with a greater number of activities that will be held outdoors. 

 

It will be on Friday the 14th when the starting signal is given with the proclamation offered by Tunte's neighbor, María del Patrocino Cabrera, who will mark the official start of the festivities, which will last until July 25. The celebrations will mix religious tradition such as the Mass in El Pinar and the subsequent Bajada del Camino de Santiago el Chico, with more recreational events such as the White Party, “which shows the twinning of the Canary Islands with Cuba through their salsa rhythms.” . The Councilor for Celebrations and Events also highlighted the Tribute that will be made to the person of Noé Peña, “a musician by profession and Piano teacher at the Music School of our municipality. A true reference in the fight for people who have worked for the culture and customs of our land. It will undoubtedly be an honor to have him present at these parties in which he always participated.” 

 

On the other hand, from August 11 to 24, the festivities will be celebrated in honor of San Bartolomé, which this year celebrates the first pilgrimage in honor of the patron saint of the municipality, it will be on Saturday, August 19. The traditional Bajada del Carbonero will not be missing from these festivities, “which this year celebrates its twenty-second edition, remembering the trade that for years was carried out in a harsh environment, giving the complicated route that it involved.” 

 

For his part, Ismael Guerra, president of the Cultural Association of Santiago el Chico, was in charge of listing the entire program and announced Tony Tun Tun, who will perform on Monday, July 24, as headliners at the Santiago festival; and in the festivities of San Bartolomé, it will be Bertín Osborne who “puts the finishing touch” to the Festivities of San Bartolomé, on Thursday, August 24. As news, Guerra pointed out that a Pilgrimage in Honor of Saint Bartholomew will be held for the first time, as well as the first Clay Pigeon Shooting Tournament, “thus resuming one of the tournaments that were held in the past,” concluded Ismael Guerra.
