The Municipal Winery estimates that this year's harvest can begin to be harvested at the beginning of next August.
The technicians at the Agüimes Municipal Winery are working hard these days to monitor, farm by farm, the degree of ripening of the grapes with the aim of determining as accurately as possible the optimal date for the start of the harvest. The winegrowers themselves collaborate in the process, taking great care of their production, knowing that the final quality of the Señorío de Agüimes wines depends on it.
Led by the wine advisor of the Agüimes City Council, Javier Ventura, the Winery team has been visiting a dozen farms these days. Refractometer in hand, technicians analyze in the field the sugar index of the different samples collected, a fundamental parameter that indicates the physiological maturity of the fruit. During the production process, the sugar will be transformed into alcohol to obtain the municipality's precious wines.
According to the first estimates, pending laboratory results, it is expected that the harvest can begin in Agüimes in the first week of next August. The harvested grapes will be sent to the Municipal Winery for the production and subsequent bottling of the Señorío de Agüimes wines, in their different varieties, wines that continue to receive awards at all levels. The last of them, the one obtained this week in the 27th edition of the Insular Wine Tasting of Gran Canaria, with the silver medal for the Señorío de Agüimes white wine corresponding to the 2022 harvest, a new recognition for men and women of the municipality who strive daily to preserve the traditional cultivation of the vine in these latitudes.
