The Virgins of Carmen in Arguineguín and Mogán have commemorated their traditional meeting, within the framework of the maritime procession of the patron saint festivities of the Virgin of Carmen of Arguineguín. Both virgins have starred in an emotional moment in which neighbors from all over the municipality have come together to enjoy and celebrate such a special day. The town of Arguineguín has completely dedicated itself to the day of its patron saint.
After the mass in which the parish priest prayed for all the sailors and fishermen, the maritime procession left to meet its counterpart, the Virgin of Carmen of Playa de Mogán. “Here, like every year, there is great fervor and great loyalty, not only on the part of the people of Mogan, but also of all the people of Gran Canaria who enjoy our maritime procession,” said the mayor, Onalia Bueno. This year, the maritime procession has been able to take place thanks to the collaboration of the Fishermen's Guild of Arguineguín and the Mogán City Council itself, as well as all the fishermen and sailors who have made it possible for hundreds of people to enjoy one of the great festivals of Gran Canaria.
The neighbors waited with great enthusiasm and nerves for the meeting of the two sisters, the devotion and fervor of tradition and faith intermingled with the patron saint of the sea. The traditional Eucharist began at 9:00 in the morning, in an act after which the Virgin was carried by sailors to the Arguineguín dock. As every year, the boat in charge of transporting the image of the patron saint of the sea has been chosen in a draw in which 19 fishing boats have participated. This year the chosen one was Julio and Olga's boat, whose skipper is Jesús David Vega Medina. After leaving the dock, the Virgin was taken to El Pajar and the path continued to the seaport of Mogán.
In Playa de Mogán there were 14 boats of the Brotherhood in charge of receiving the Virgen del Carmen. The meeting took place amid cries of 'Long live the Virgin of Carmen!', and a mix of emotions among the most devout who were eagerly awaiting this day. Tonight the Carmen Festival culminates in the Arguineguín neighborhood with a posthumous tribute to Mr. Pedro Juan Trujillo García for his unconditional involvement in decorating the streets in the Carmen Festival. Finishing these, those in Playa de Mogán begin with the mass and land procession starting at 19:00 p.m. and with the traditional fish barbecue.
