More than 800 people participated in the courses, workshops and activities organized by the XXXI edition of the Maspalomas Summer University, which offered, from June 26 to July 21, an extensive training program with 25 courses and workshops, more than 30 activities, a trip to Galicia and Northern Portugal, the IX International Rotary Maspalomas CAMP, in addition to the international Trumpet festivals, Canarias Jazz & Más and Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival.

The closing ceremony included interventions by the Councilor for the Presidency, Human Resources and Culture of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, Elena Álamo Vega; the delegate councilor for Culture of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, Esther Delgado, and the director of the Maspalomas Summer University, Germán Santana Pérez.

Elena Álamo Vega thanked the organization and staff of the City Council for their efforts, as well as the involvement of all the teachers, especially Judith Pezoa, who gets personally involved every year to offer a Singing workshop that, due to its high level, It always has a large number of students from various municipalities on the island.

For her part, Esther Delgado highlighted the variety of speakers in different subjects who have participated and congratulated the students who have been able to attend and enjoy the extensive training program and the different musical activities that have been held in the municipality.

Germán Santana was "very satisfied with the result of this edition" and highlighted the level of the speakers, both professionals and experts from the Canary Islands, such as the actress Silvia Marsó, member of the Spanish Academy of Arts and Sciences, or the writers Carlos Taibo, José Manuel Fajardo or Karla Suárez.

For his part, the writer and philosopher Carlos Taibo, speaker of 'The construction of the new utopia of the XNUMXst century', pointed out that "there is no revolution that has not begun before with an endless number of small initiatives", as one of the bases of the current construction of a new utopian reality.

Taibo assured that "if the concept of collapse accounts for what awaits us, the rules of the game are set from outside and we will not have the capacity to act." However, two bases emerge today that predict a more optimistic future: "on the one hand, the fact that in the rich countries of the north there can be an organization based on mutual support in solidarity in the face of the current lacerating idealism."

And secondly, "in areas of the south, pre-capitalist cultures persist that have not been seduced by profit, accumulation and usury. It is these that form an interesting resistance against the dominant logic that leads us to collapse. I understand , therefore, my position is not particularly pessimistic".
