3000 kilos of drugs adrift in Agüimes

CERISTIAN SANCHEZ Wednesday, July 26, 2023

Members of the Civil Guard in charge of monitoring the coasts of the island found a zodiac adrift on Wednesday morning in Playa de Vargas, Agüimes.

The Civil Guard discovered a zodiac-type boat approximately seven meters long, adrift on the coast of Vargas beach, in the municipality of Agüimes, on the island of Gran Canaria, during the morning of this Wednesday. The boat was carrying 87 bales of hashish.

According to a press release from the Civil Guard, this discovery occurred thanks to the surveillance that the agents maintain on the coasts. This preventive action made it possible to avoid the introduction of approximately 3.000 kilos of hashish, contained in the aforementioned bales.

Authorities have launched an investigation to obtain more information about the intended destination of the seized drugs. Both the evidence collected and the report corresponding to the boat recovery operation have been delivered to the Telde duty court.

At the moment, no arrests have been made related to this event, according to the Civil Guard.
