Five million euros in the maintenance works of the Soria Dam

The objective of the actions is the correct exploitation of the dam and its reservoir to meet agricultural demands

The Aguas La Lumbre Community, owned by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, has put out to tender the maintenance works of the Soria Dam, worth 5 million euros. This is an action that aims to allow the correct exploitation of the dam and its reservoir to meet agricultural demands. 

 

The works include the rehabilitation of its drainage organs and the implementation of the monitoring system, significantly improving the exploitation of the dam and the reservoir to meet the needs of agricultural irrigation and, additionally, the operation of Salto de Chira, within the framework of the Administrative Concession promoted by the Island Water Council of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, for hydroelectric use.

The five million euros, estimated value of the works tendered by The Community, are executed with their own funds, and interested companies will be able to submit offers until 13:00 p.m. on September 7, 2023. 

 

The Community of Aguas La Lumbre, owned by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, aims to conserve and manage the different assets and rights that constitute the heritage of the Community, with the Soria Dam being part of its heritage.

 

The Soria Dam  was built in the 60s, ending on June 24, 1972, being among the 10 highest vault dams in the country. Since then it has had continuous exploitation and its maintenance has focused on work to be able to meet the demands of agricultural irrigation.
