New evacuations in the municipalities of Arafo, La Orotava, El Sauzal and La Matanza and the total number exceeds three thousand people

The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, pointed out tonight that the fire has continued to advance and is out of control as it is very difficult to carry out the extinguishing work, due to the orography, the weather and the smoke, which has caused safety problems. visibility for the aerial means, despite the magnificent work of the interveners and the incorporation of more means. Clavijo added that the main priority continues to be protecting people and then material goods and the mountains.

 

At 20 p.m. today, the area of ​​the fire reached 3.273 hectares within a perimeter of 40 kilometers, which covers the municipalities of Arafo, Candelaria, El Rosario, La Orotava, Santa Úrsula, La Victoria, El Sauzal and Tacoronte, affecting forest mass (pine forest), mostly on Mount La Esperanza and the forest crown.

 

According to the technical chief of the Cabildo del Cabildo, Pedro Martínez, the fire is moving due to wind from the west towards the metropolitan area, with passing and small attempts, which has conditioned the actions of the interveners, which is mainly defensive, waiting for so that the fire arrives with less intensity and can attack.

 

The evolution of the fire has forced the INFOCA Plan management to order new evacuations during the afternoon, specifically in El Pinalete, Galván, Las Vigas and Los Ramos, in Arafo; the Pino Alto neighborhood, in the municipality of La Orotava; the Baboseras Altas neighborhood, Camino el Pozo, Lomo la Piedra to Calderetas (from San Cristóbal street to the mountain) and La Vica, in El Sauzal; as well as the neighborhoods of La Vica and El Pirul in La Matanza.

 

In total there are more than 3.000 people evacuated and 3.820 from the center of La Esperanza, in El Rosario, remain confined, according to the census. To serve the displaced population, shelters have been set up in El Rosario, La Orotava, Candelaria, El Sauzal and La Matanza, where more than a hundred residents and some pets are located.

 

In this sense, the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila added that citizens have to know that the vacated homes are being monitored by security forces and bodies, in addition to being defended by means of extinction. Likewise, the Minister of Social Welfare, Candelaria Delgado, indicated that in all the shelters there are psychosocial teams to care for those affected.

 

During the next night, 226 troops will intervene in the extinguishing device, supported by a hundred from the security device and 40 from logistics.

 

Early in the morning, the 17 air assets will join, including coordination forces and 260 ground combatants.

 

From 6 in the afternoon, all access to the Teide National Park was cut off for reasons of security and operation of the resources involved and the prohibition of access to the mountain is maintained.

 

The air quality index in the municipalities of Güímar, Arafo, Candelaria and El Rosario continues to be unfavorable due to the smoke generated by the fire, which is composed of a mixture of gases and small particles from the combustion of vegetation and other materials. In this sense, the recommendations to the population are maintained to protect vulnerable people and risk groups, such as avoiding staying outdoors, closing doors and windows and using FFP2 masks.

 

For greater operability, there are three Advanced Command Posts, with the main Government Post in Arafo and the others in El Rosario and La Orotava.
