The mayor of Telde dismisses Héctor Suárez from all his functions

Maspalomas24H Saturday, August 19, 2023

Juan Antonio Peña, mayor of Telde, has decreed the cessation of the powers and delegations assumed until now by councilor Héctor Suárez and removes him from the municipal government

The councilor maintains that this is a “considered and forceful” decision, understanding that the actions and decisions of the mayor “do not correspond with the loyalty and commitment acquired in the current pact.” Peña highlights that “we are committed to a real change in forms, practices and ways of acting and that a committed government cannot falter in the face of considerations that have no impact on the well-being of citizens.”

Likewise, he regrets having learned from third parties about actions that he considers “are governmental” and that “are part of the line of action of the municipal team.” “In the event of any irregular situation, the Mayor's Office and the members of the Corporation will act forcefully,” he adds. In his words, “citizens chose a change with very high expectations and we cannot afford any action that deviates from these foundations.”

Along the same lines, the mayor has asked the manager of the street cleaning service and the municipal offices for copies of the latest contracts made from May to the present, as well as the dismissal of Jonay López, former councilor of the City Council, hired in the last days by the company at the request of Héctor Suárez.

The mayor has the support of the remaining councilors and their leaders, such as Sergio Ramos (PP) and Juan Francisco Artiles (MxT) and, in addition, he expresses that he will maintain his commitment to the Canarian Coalition and the rest of his councilors.

From now on, Juan Martel assumes the position of Government Councilor for the Territories area and the Culture and Municipal Services delegations. For her part, Pilar Mesa maintains Public Lighting, Health and Consumer Affairs. Thus, Ciuca takes control of Water and Urban Planning, and the Popular Party holds the delegation of the Cleaning service. For his part, Juan Francisco Artiles becomes Second Deputy Mayor.

Likewise, the first mayor has decreed the dismissal of the temporary staff linked to councilor Héctor Suárez and is pending the CC proposal for the new appointments.
