Those arrested impersonated the identity and banking details of a technology company through email, receiving the money through a bank transfer into their personal account.
One of them was already in prison serving a sentence for another act of a similar nature.
The money, which could have been blocked by the Fraud Department of the receiving bank, will be returned to its legitimate owners
Agents of the National Police have arrested a 59-year-old man in Madrid, with a police record for crimes of fraud, falsification of documents and usurpation, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of fraud.
Last May, the National Police received a complaint from the head of a company located in the south of Gran Canaria, which revealed a possible scam in the purchase of technological material.
According to the complainant, he made a payment of 76.384 euros by bank transfer to a technology company in order to acquire certain material, but the payment did not reach its recipient.
The police investigation then made it possible to determine that a series of erroneous bank details had been entered in the online purchase process in order to impersonate the selling company and take possession of the total amount of the purchase.
Those investigated, two men aged 59 and 51, with police records for similar events, were located in Madrid. One of them was arrested and placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority, while the second of them was already in prison serving a sentence for another act of a similar nature. The transferred money could be blocked by the Fraud Department of the receiving bank and will be returned to its legitimate owners.
