133 kilos of cherne, 70 kilos of potatoes, 70 kilos of sweet potatoes and 35 liters of mojo, formed 500 individual portions in the traditional Sancocho Canario
Tunte said goodbye today to the patron saint festivities of San Bartolomé Tirajana with the Mass and Procession in honor of the saint. The parish priest of the municipality of Pájara and Archpriest of Fuerteventura, born in El Tablero de Maspalomas, Mr. Fernando García was in charge of giving the sermon at the sung mass enlivened by the Achimencey Folk Group.
After finishing the response, the image of San Bartolomé toured the streets of Tunte in a procession led by the mayor of the Tirajan municipality, Marco Aurelio Pérez and the Councilor for Events and Celebrations, Yilenia Vega; who were accompanied by the members of the municipal corporation as well as the mayors of Santa Brígida, José Miguel Bravo de Laguna; and that of Tejeda, Francisco Juan Perera. The music for the tour was provided by the band La Charanguita Los Amigos.
The celebration ended with the traditional Canarian sancocho in the Plaza de Santiago, which served 133 kilos of cherne, 70 kilos of potatoes, 70 kilos of sweet potatoes and 35 liters of mojo, distributing a total of 500 individual portions. The heat was the main protagonist of the day, but it did not prevent the neighbors from participating in all the events that had been scheduled by the Department of Events and Celebrations, in collaboration with the Santiago El Chico Cultural Association. Thus, after enjoying the sancocho, neighbors and visitors danced at the Solajero festival with Paco Guedes, during which the attendees were refreshed with the traditional 'August Rains', celebrating the festival under the rain caused by the sprinklers placed for the chance.
