Agents of the National Police have dismantled a criminal organization that regularized migrants with false documents and have detained four people, three of whom have been imprisoned. They housed the migrants in properties located on the island of Gran Canaria that were under circumstances unsuitable for habitation and that did not have the minimum conditions of health or hygiene. The network obtained profits that amounted to more than 250.000 euros in total. Those involved received information from other criminal organizations that were dedicated to human trafficking about boat departures from Morocco.
They received information from migrants arriving on the island
The criminal network was divided into two different branches, one was based in Morocco and the second in Spain. Its members were in charge of receiving migrants who came by boat from Morocco and arrived on the island of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, managing their maintenance and their transfer to the peninsula. Those involved were assigned the different functions of boat pilot, intermediary or person responsible for collecting money. The members settled in Spain managed the necessary procedures to acquire boarding passes and leave the island. They were also in charge of receiving payments for transfers and controlling the properties where the migrants were housed.
