The Minister of Primary Sector, Food Sovereignty and Water of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Miguel Hidalgo, maintained that the island's farmers have guaranteed water supply from the dams that are part of the Salto de Chira project that is being carried out. the insular corporation.
As a result of the demonstrations made by some group about the emptying of the Soria dam and its possible effects on the area, Hidalgo highlighted the relevance of Salto de Chira for the Island and pointed out that its development requires carrying out a series of works on each of the dams. More specifically in the case of the Soria dam, he indicated that it requires a modification in its lower part, to be able to install the necessary elements for its new function. "For this reason, it has been emptied and the little water it contained has been removed, which was a small amount and has been distributed through the Trasvasur canal to different dams in the area, such as Ayagaures and La Gambuesa, where it is currently dammed. "he pointed out. "In no case has that water been misused," he stated.
Thus, he insisted on emphasizing that the dams participating in Salto de Chira will be subject to the necessary rehabilitation and reform processes. And, more specifically, in Soria, work is being done in the area of the water outlet, to modify the system. "For this and to be able to work with guarantee, safety and quality, the water must be removed," he explained.
Likewise, he announced that this same process will be repeated in the Chira dam, when any modification is going to be made to it, so the water it contains will also have to be removed at that time.
