The Village of San Nicolás hopes to receive more than 10.000 people at its big event, El Charco, on September 11.
This was announced at a press conference by the counselor of the Primary Sector Council of the Council of Gran Canaria, Miguel Hidalgo; the mayor of La Aldea de San Nicolás, Víctor Hernández; and the Councilor for Celebrations of the Village City Council, José Francisco Navarro.
In this sense, the advisor of the Primary Sector of the island corporation, Miguel Hidalgo, has highlighted the importance that "these festivals have for La Aldea de San Nicolás and for Gran Canaria", because "they are twinning festivals, which begin with the ringing of bells, invites the Rama to dance and enter the sacred waters of El Charco.”
In addition, he pointed out that as a Primary Sector counselor there is another special event such as the Livestock Fair, which will be held on September 9 in La Aldea de San Nicolás.
For his part, the mayor of La Aldea de San Nicolás, Víctor Hernández, recalled that this September 1 the large events of the patron saint festivities begin in honor of San Nicolás de Tolentino, with the raising of the flag and the ringing of the bells at noon, although the events began in mid-August.
“The most anticipated festivals are here, not only for the villagers, but also for the people of Gran Canaria who have this event marked on their calendar every year, and as it falls on a weekend we expect the influx to be even greater than others. years," said Hernández, who has invited citizens "to enjoy all the scheduled events, but especially the three most anticipated ones, such as the Rama on the 9th, the Pilgrimage on the 10th, and the Charco on the 11th. of September".
In the case of Charco, “an influx of around 10.000 people is expected, and this event will be broadcast live on Televisión Canaria, so it can be followed by everyone in the Canary Islands, and through the Internet by those who are off the island.”
Although, it is estimated that "during all events between 20.000 and 25.000 people can enjoy our festivities."
The Security Councilor also stated that “they will be safe parties”, since the council “has not spared any effort to guarantee the safety of all attendees”. To this end, he recalled that collaboration agreements have been signed for the transfer of local police officers with the town councils of Telde, Mogán, Agaete, Gáldar, and Santa María de Guía. In addition, for another year there will be the Telde Local Police Drone Unit (UniDron) and Civil Protection personnel from other Gran Canaria municipalities. In addition, on Charco Day the number of private security personnel has also increased.
In total there will be more than 80 municipal personnel, to which we must also add the presence of the Civil Guard and the Regional Police, plus medical services personnel, health services and the hospital, and the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium , among others.
This year, there will also be Violet Points on La Rama day and El Charco day. The first of them will be located in La Alameda and the second in front of the Luis Restaurant.
The Councilor for Celebrations of the City Council of La Aldea de San Nicolás, José Francisco Navarro, has detailed the events of the festival program. In total, between religious and recreational events, “there are more than 70 scheduled activities, aimed at all ages, from the youngest to the oldest.”
In this regard, he recalled that the Patron Saint Festivities of La Aldea de San Nicolás 2023 started at the beginning of August with the Market and the Crafts Exhibition, with the celebration of the Young People's Night, and with the El Charco Music Festival on the 19th. of August, which brought together El Último que Cierre, Los Lolas and Los Coquillos.
In addition, various tournaments have been held such as the deck of cards and other events within the program such as the Gala for the Election of the Queen and the Mister of the Festivals of La Aldea de San Nicolás, both adults and children, and the proclamation, which this year it was offered by teacher María Eugenia Bello.
However, he stated that the most anticipated events begin with the ringing of bells this September 1 in the portico of the Church of San Nicolás, which will be entertained by Charanga La Aldea and the Sabrosa Banda La Aldea. That day, we will also “have the second popular festival with the Acuarela group and a nighttime musical walk through the streets of the town center.”
On day 2 there will be a new edition of the Market and the Crafts and Accessories Exhibition with musical performances by Festivas and Guarasón, and there will also be a car show on Avenida de San Nicolás from 09.00:15.00 a.m. to 20.30:XNUMX p.m. In addition, the petanque tournament will begin in the municipal fields, and the El Charco Folklore Festival with the La Aldea Parranda, the AF Un buchito de café (Gran Canaria), AF Cumbre Nueva (La Palma), and Friends of Punta Rasca (Tenerife). After the festival, in the La Alameda area there will be a new popular festival with the group N-Klave and Son La Aldea.
On Sunday, September 3, the Music Bands meeting will take place at 19.00:XNUMX p.m. in the Plaza de La Alameda with the participation of Sol y Viento (Vecindario) and Aires de La Aldea. That day, the official chronicler of the municipality, Francisco Suárez, will also present his latest book “Communications and transportation in a rural environment.”
From September 4 to 6, the Cultural Contest will take place, where villagers will test their general knowledge about various subjects such as geography, history, gastronomy, or sports.
On the eve of Pine Day, September 7, Pedro Manuel Afonso is scheduled to perform with his show “Leyendas” in the Community Development Project Plaza starting at 21.00:XNUMX p.m. After him, the Panamaribe Night (popular festival) will take place in La Alameda with performances by the Orquesta Generación, Orquesta Panamaribe, and Juan Manuel de La Línea.
On September 8, the protagonists are the elders of the municipality, and for this, musical performances have been scheduled at 11.00:XNUMX a.m. in La Alameda with Lomo del Viso, the folklore classroom of La Aldea and Celia Jiménez and Mariachi Peleón. That day there will also be a tribute ceremony and the elder's lunch with dance entertained by Los Brillantes.
At 20.30:8 p.m. on the XNUMXth, the Hi-Fi Stopover for adults will also take place, and the Salsa night with Son Caché, Tribute to Celia Cruz and Óscar de León, and the La Mayork Orchestra in La Alameda.
On September 9, in addition to the Bajada de la Rama, which will be entertained by Charanga La Aldea, the Livestock Fair will take place. The day will end with a popular festival enlivened by Armonía Show and Star Music, and with a pyrotechnic show at the back of the football field at 00.00:XNUMX.
On September 10, one of the most anticipated of the festivities, it will begin with the flowered reveille through the streets of the municipality at 06.30:07.00 a.m. and the mass and blessing of Panecillos de San Nicolás at 11.00:XNUMX a.m. At XNUMX:XNUMX a.m. the Eucharist-Procession in Honor of San Nicolás de Tolentino will take place.
In the afternoon, at 18.00:XNUMX p.m., the Pilgrimage of Offering to San Nicolás will begin, with the participation of Los Cebolleros de Gáldar and the Parranda Amigos Isleños. The starting point will be the Los Picos Warehouse. The day will end with the Rope Dance and the popular festival with La Mekánica by Tamarindos and Leyenda Joven.
El Charco Day, on September 11, will begin at 09.00:17.00 a.m. with the concentration of the walk and departure to El Charco. Upon arrival there will be dancing on the Pier with the Agaete Band and a party and social gathering. It will be from 21.00:XNUMX p.m. when the flyer will be launched inviting attendees to enter El Charco to fish for the Rica Lisa. The party will continue in La Alameda starting at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. with the humor of Matías Alonso and the México Sinfónico concert with the Las Palmas Symphony Orchestra.
The Patron Saint Festivities of La Aldea de San Nicolás will continue on September 15 with children's games, workshops and entertainment and with the Maresía concert, starring Ayla Rodríguez, José Manuel Ramos, Iván Quintana and Luz Mila Valerón.
September 16 will be the day of the rise of La Rama with Charanga La Aldea and the last popular festival with Melody and D'Music.
The festive events will continue until September 30 and will end with an international saxophone masterclass and the closing concert of the Saxophone Ensemble with the socialists Silvio Zalambani and Antonio Bocanegra.
To enjoy these festivities, José Francisco Navarro has announced that the city council has reached agreements with the public transport company Global to increase the frequencies of the lines that connect with La Aldea de San Nicolás on El Charco day, in order to that “everyone can attend this long-awaited event, which has also been declared an Asset of Regional Tourist Interest.”
