The Catalan David Meca is a reference in open water at an international level, and synonymous with perseverance, effort and enthusiasm. He has been a 28-time world champion, three-time long-distance swimming world champion, has six European Championship titles, more than 100 international titles in long-distance open water events, and is the first and only person in history in winning 4 medals in a long distance World Championship, among other milestones. David Meca will once again motivate and challenge the swimmers of the Maspalomas Open Water on September 16, adding attraction and the best sporting spectacle to the Gran Canaria event.
Along with David Meca, the starting line of the Maspalomas Open Water has the honor of having two-time Olympian Laura Roca, who has accumulated the Sydney and Athens Games in her brilliant record. She also won silver and gold at the European Championships in Berlin and Madrid respectively and a freestyle specialist will be part of the participating stars.
Among professional athletes there are already several confirmed names, such as Eduard Mannanov, who will debut in the Maspalomas Open Water to challenge his own record after winning the challenge in Las Canteras.
