The Civil Guard in Gran Canaria carried out a coordinated service with the Ingenio City Council, investigating a 31-year-old person on August 79 for a crime of smuggling, animal abuse and/or abandonment, professional intrusion and health public since all the animals that were on the farm were in a deplorable state of health due to the absence of omission of due care, presenting external parasitic infestation and skin wounds, in the municipality of Ingenio (Las Palmas).

Knowledge of the facts

The Civil Guard was aware of the events as a result of citizen collaboration that alerted the SEPRONA Agents of the seriousness in which the animals were in a plot of land in the town of Ingenio. Given the events that occurred, the Civil Guard immediately activated the veterinarian of the Cabildo and the Municipal Council of said City Council, to check the status of the animals.

For this reason, SEPRONA goes to the place where the presence of the animals is observed from outside the plot and to the owner of the farm, informing him that because the animals are in poor conditions for their well-being, they would be seized.

Inside the farm, a total of between 70 and 80 animals can be seen, including fifteen dogs, some of them tied with a chain of less than one meter and not having a suitable place to shelter from the inclement weather, since most of them were enclosed cages, which could cause injuries to the dogs' legs, some of which were missing dewclaws, and the 6 pups of the fifteen dogs could be seen as having had their tails cut off, with five of those tails being found in the freezer.

All of them had a large parasitic infestation (fleas and ticks) and one of them had serious injuries to the neck, requiring urgent surgery since the chain had become embedded in the neck, five pigs, nine goats, nine birds (exotic, all of them included in the CITES convention) and six Equines, three of them in a metal corral where they could run the risk of being cut and another two tied by their legs to a tree with a short rope, showing little care when one of them found themselves with malformations in the hoof, which presented unfortunate conditions for their well-being and health, such as ulcerative wounds, seriously compromising the lives of the animals. In addition, several cats and poultry (guinea fowl, peacocks, etc.) were found loose on the plot.

Furthermore, the facilities lacked the minimum conditions for animal welfare, lacking clean water to hydrate and food in perfect condition, with bulk bags containing food in poor condition, informing the owner of the deplorable conditions in which they were found. the animals and informing him that all the animals would be brought to judicial disposal.

Regardless of the animals seized, all types of waste were located inside the plot, including fiber cement, tires, plastics, RCD, electronic and electrical, etc., with a large accumulation of more than 50 vehicles in an apparent state of disrepair. abandonment.

As a result of the good relationship between the City Council of Ingenio and the Civil Guard, it facilitated the rapid collection of the animals to transfer them as a precautionary measure for safekeeping to appropriate facilities for veterinary supervision and due care, remaining at the disposal of the Judicial Authority as proof of conviction.

The proceedings were made available to the Investigative Court number 3 of Telde, as well as the Provincial Environmental Prosecutor's Office of Las Palmas.
