Vice President Onalia Bueno highlights the work of the AMT for the decarbonization and digitalization of destinations
During the Assembly, the new Board of Directors was formed, in which all the islands that have tourist municipalities are represented.
The president of the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC) and mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, today defended the role that these destinations play in the governance of the sector and assured that “the organization now faces a four-year mandate. years during which the voice of the municipalities in the governance of tourism will continue to be strengthened, respecting the singularities of each destination.”
José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, who recalled that the Association is a consensus body, made these statements during the first assembly of the AMTC of this mandate, a meeting that took place at the Costa Adeje Tourism Development Center (CDTCA) and in which Representatives from the 13 municipalities that are members of the Association have met. “In this first meeting, the importance of the experience that tourist municipalities have in defending a sector that is the economic base of the Canary Islands and on which, in addition, social progress is produced, has been insisted on,” he said.

The president and host mayor explained that the AMTC is working to address the new challenges and new scenarios that tourism faces and made reference to such important issues as access to housing, the definition of a tourist municipality or the implementation implementation of the decree for safety on the beaches, approved by the Government of the Canary Islands.
Regarding this decree, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga confirmed that the AMTC's request is to postpone the implementation of the decree until the municipalities can provide themselves with the resources and means to respond effectively. At this point, he emphasized the importance of dialogue with all the agents involved to guarantee the quality of the destination.
For her part, the vice president of the AMTC and mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, detailed the projects that are being developed by the Association. She emphasized the project 'Decarbonization of the destination. Canary Green', which is endowed with eight million euros from the Next Generation Funds.
“This initiative is aimed at the decarbonization of the destination, with lines of work as important as sustainable mobility, renewable energy consumption and the digitalization of the destination,” said Onalia Bueno, who also highlighted the importance of the AMTC having been one of the candidates chosen by the Secretary of State for Tourism "to carry out this pilot experience that will be fundamental for the main economic sector of the Archipelago."
New AMTC Board of Directors
One of the items on the agenda of the assembly was the constitution of the new board of directors after the municipal elections last May.
The mayor of Adeje, José Manuel Rodríguez Fraga, maintains the position of president of the AMTC and the mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, that of vice president. From today, the mayor of Santiago del Teide, Emilio Navarro, occupies the position of secretary, while the seats will be occupied by the mayors of La Oliva, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Puerto de La Cruz and Yaiza, Isaí Blanco, Marco Aurelio Pérez , Marco González and Óscar Manuel Noda, respectively, seeking the representativeness of all the islands that have tourist municipalities
