The measure, of an extraordinary and temporary nature, will allow their families to enroll them in municipal or private nursery schools until they can join public places.
It will have an estimated cost of four million euros and will avoid the damage caused to them by the lack of foresight of the previous Executive, as the current Minister of Education, Poli Suárez, has been denouncing.
The Government of the Canary Islands will allocate four million euros so that all boys and girls on the Islands born in 2021 and whose families have enrolled them in the first cycle of Early Childhood Education in public centers whose works are not yet finished, can be enrolled in school this year. .
To this end, it has already closed an agreement with the network of private early childhood education schools on the Islands, to which the Minister of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports, Poli Suárez, has thanked them for their support and willingness.
The affected students will be transferred, temporarily and in an extraordinary manner, to other centers, so that they can progressively occupy their places as the works are completed.
“We said we would find a solution for these boys and girls, and we have done so. "This is a temporary and extraordinary situation to avoid serious harm to families caused by the previous Government of the Canary Islands," said Poli Suárez, who also recalled that, since his arrival in office, a month and a half ago, he warned of the seriousness of the situation due to the lack of foresight of the previous Executive.
In that sense, for this 2023/2024 academic year, the Government of Ángel Víctor Torres had planned in a total of 65 centers in the Archipelago the creation of 1.196 places from 0 to 3 years old (in reality, from 2 to 3) whose implementation required of works that, upon the arrival of the new Executive, not only had not started but in many cases were not tendered or awarded.
Furthermore, and despite having also authorized the enrollment of students in these places, the previous Government had foreseen that these works would last at least two or three months from their award, so it was materially impossible for them to be ready before October. a situation that had already occurred at the beginning of the previous academic year (2022/2023), causing chaos among families, to which no solution was given then, unlike what happened now.
More details of the protocol that families must follow will be offered in the near future. However, they will be able to choose the center to take their sons and daughters to, as long as there are places available.
