The 2nd Vice President and Councilor for the Presidency and Sustainable Mobility of the Cabildo, Teodoro Sosa, received last Wednesday, September 6, in the capital of Gran Canaria, the mayor of Villa de Ingenio, José López; the Councilor for Strategic Planning and Heritage, Martín García; and the Councilor for Mobility and Transportation, Rubén Cruz, together with a technician from this area, in order to hold a technical meeting, addressing Historical Heritage issues, but, especially, the Mobility area.
The Regulatory Regulation of Sensitive Areas and the demand of the taxi sector to have greater control and surveillance of the transfers that operate at the Gran Canaria Airport were some of the topics addressed, therefore joining the work table, as the meeting, a representation of the Ingenio taxi sector.
"Present our demands to the counselor, demand greater control of the transfer and report malpractice at the airport, something that directly affects us" were the purposes of this meeting, according to Félix Méndez, member of the board of directors of the Business Association of Autotaxis of Villa de Ingenio, adding its president, Raúl Artiles, that "the abuses we suffer due to intrusion at the airport cannot continue like this. We have to keep fighting.”
As the mayor of Ingenio explained, after maintaining a first contact the previous day with the director of AENA, “it was now necessary to sensitize the counselor to the specific reality of Ingenio and the important role that the taxi sector plays in the municipality, being an activity that employs more than 200 people directly or indirectly.” José López wanted to highlight that the only island where taxi drivers from other municipalities enter to operate at the airport is Gran Canaria. “We have a commitment to the Cabildo to justify with objective data that Ingenio and Telde are truly more than prepared and capable of providing coverage at the airport. There are issues that will be resolved in the short term, we have tools to justify them, but we also aspire for the airport to be a benefit for these two municipalities that contribute so much to Gran Canaria, when others are receiving the tourist benefits," said the mayor. of Ingenuity.
The counselor showed his firm commitment to go hand in hand with the two town councils, Cabildo and Aena, to comply with the regulations, control access and track the number of transfers.
