The Departments of Education and Local Police ask the families of schoolchildren to use cars correctly and moderately when entering educational centers.
The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has launched this Monday, coinciding with the beginning of the 2023-2024 academic year, a call for civic collaboration from families and parents who go in motorized vehicles to the municipality's educational centers to take schoolchildren .
This request, undertaken by the second deputy mayor, Elena Álamo Vega, as head of the Department of Education, and José Carlos Álamo Ojeda, as mayor of Security and Local Police, has as priority objectives to raise awareness among the students' families about the use unnecessary or improper use of vehicles and respect for traffic regulations to guarantee the safety of people, and promote access to schools without smoke and noise from engines and whistles to improve the conditions of public coexistence.
With this appeal to prudence, the aim is for parents to reflect in a reasoned and conscientious manner on the need to use or not use cars to bring minors to the very door of schools and daycare centers. The municipal approach is that it would be convenient and preferable for it to be done on foot, due to its proven contribution to people's health and the reduction in road traffic and its greater fluidity.
“This demand for the civic cooperation of neighbors is intentional and educational. It aims to raise awareness about the social behavior that each of us maintains at a particular, personal and family level, and about the impact and repercussions that these actions have for collective and general coexistence,” says Elena Álamo.
"It is proven that automobile traffic in practically all of the urban centers of the municipality is condensed with a risk of danger at peak times for entering and leaving educational centers, and that this generates a series of inconveniences and inconveniences for everyone that could be avoided by adopting simple measures,” says José Carlos Álamo.
Among these measures, the option of walking to educational centers stands out for its importance, due to the personal and social benefits that it entails, or doing it in a staggered manner and not in the rush of the last minute and coinciding with peak hours if the bus is used. car due to major and unavoidable causes.
Best Practices
In any case, the Departments of Education and Security have planned for the first days of this beginning of the course to intensify surveillance of the entrances and exits of the schools with the means available at their disposal, even using drones and mobile radars as their own resources. for traffic surveillance and road safety. The purpose is to contribute to the gradual awareness of the population as a most effective measure.
That is why the City Council's call for collaboration emphasizes the need for drivers to respect the instructions of the agents, traffic signs, the traffic code and good passive safety practices at all times, which include the use of seat belts, never using the mobile phone while driving, the obligatory use of special chair carriers for transporting the little ones, the use of turn signals to signal maneuvers and, above all, parking respectful of the safety and streamlining of traffic in general.
