The European project 'Natalie' will allow the control of rainwater pollution in Maspalomas
This is an initiative of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and Canaragua to seek solutions based on nature that improve resilience to climate change.

The Cabildo of Gran Canaria, through the Island Energy Council and the Canarian company specialized in the management of the integral water cycle 'Canaragua', has participated today in the telematic meeting to launch the Natalie project, with which this initiative begins European Union aimed at seeking nature-based solutions to improve resilience to climate change.
Gran Canaria will be one of the demonstration sites, where a study will be carried out to control pollution in the discharges of the stormwater network in the Maspalomas ravine.
The Minister of Environment, Climate, Energy and Knowledge, Raúl García Brink, explains that with the results obtained, several solutions will be developed to control the contamination of runoff water before it reaches the ravine.
“The objective is that these solutions can be replicated in other locations with similar characteristics and, in this way, generate value propositions that help combat the effects of climate change, not only in our territory, but in other places in the world,” he explains. .

“Part of the budget for this initiative will be contributed by the Cabildo through the Insular Energy Council in a total sum of 150.000 euros, which joins the 250.000 euros from Canaragua and the 490.000 euros from Aquatec, the University of La Laguna and the CSIC,” he adds.
Agbar Group's Aquatec Climate Change and Resilience Unit will lead the work package on 'Resilience Assessment Methodologies, Models and Tools', which will study the implementation of multiple Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems to improve climate resilience in different sites of the archipelago, with the collaboration of different local partners, such as the company Canaragua, the Island Energy Council of Gran Canaria and the University of La Laguna.
Next November, an in-person meeting will take place in Limoges, France, to which the participating entities will attend to learn about the next steps in the development of the project.
