The Minister of Tourism and Employment, Jessica de León, has assured that the forecasts for winter in the tourism sector show extremely positive data, with almost ten million scheduled flights to the archipelago.
The tourism sector continues to be congratulated, after a 2023 of continuous growth, everything seems to indicate that in winter this positive trend will only increase, with nearly 10 million air seats scheduled to the islands and an increase in reservations.
In her first intervention in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Jessica de León expressed her confidence in the future of the tourism sector. The counselor stressed that the Canary Islands continue to lead the way at the national level, leading the tourism recovery and with numbers that will leave 2023 as an outstanding year in the history of the sector.
De León shared the forecasts, ensuring that the winter season will have some 9,6 million scheduled air seats to the Canary Islands, an increase of 7,6% compared to the previous year and an increase of 33,5% compared to winter. 2019, the last year for which there are records before the pandemic.
According to the counselor, if these trends continue, the Canary Islands could reach the record number of 16,2 million visitors in 2023, surpassing its 2017 mark and achieving a historical turnover of more than 19.000 million euros. One of the main reasons for these forecasts is the average price of accommodation, which has increased by 25% compared to 2019.
De León took advantage of his first intervention in the chamber to also insist on the weight that the tourism sector has in the economy of the islands, accounting for 32% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Autonomous Community, generating 36% of jobs. in the archipelago and contributing 35% of the taxes collected.
