The Department of Sports is putting out to tender the works to renew the artificial grass and the irrigation networks of the two football fields, which are almost 30 years old.
The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has launched the administrative procedure for the renewal of the artificial grass and irrigation networks of the municipal stadiums of Castillo del Romeral and Juan Grande. With this objective, the Department of Sports directed by the fourth deputy mayor, Ramón Suárez Ojeda, already has a public bidding process underway to contract the necessary works for a total amount of 884.000 euros.
The artificial grass on the two sports fields currently shows a high degree of deterioration and wear due to lack of irrigation and its age with exhaustive and prolonged use. The last replacement of the grass at the Castillo stadium was carried out eleven years ago, specifically in November 2012, for 199.943 euros, while that of the Juan Grande football field has never been renewed, despite the fact that it was installed some time ago. almost 20 years (December 2004), with José Manuel Soria being president of the Cabildo and Marco Aurelio Pérez being mayor of this municipality.
The deadline for submitting offers to contract these works ends next October 2. The only award criterion in this open and simplified bidding procedure is the best economic advantage for the City Council. However, bidders are required to provide a certificate that the new grass intended to expand and improve the safe uses of the two facilities meets all the characteristics required by the Fifa Quality Pro quality seal and the UNE-EN 15330-1 standard. which is the European directive that specifies the performance and durability characteristics that artificial grass sports surfaces used mainly outdoors must have. In addition, it is also required as an environmental condition that the winning company guarantee the recycling of the replaced grass by reinstalling it in the municipal facility that the City Council decides.
The works planned for the improvement of the two stadiums are not limited only to the replacement and renewal of the grass and the old perimeter sprinkler irrigation networks, which are damaged and completely out of use, but also include the verification and rectification of the field planimetry and other improvements.
The mayor of Sports, Ramón Suárez, highlights that “the renewal of the grass on the playing field of the Juan Grande stadium should have been done much earlier, for a matter of safety in sports practice, especially for the little ones. The government's commitment to the residents of the municipality implies the correct management of public money and that the users of the sports facilities feel satisfied with the service they receive."
