Councilor Mario Bordón meets with the volunteers to inform them about the best in the Temporary Animal Stay Center
The volunteers who collaborate with the Temporary Animal Stay Center (CETA) of the Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council and neighbors interested in environmental and animal welfare policies met with Mario Bordón, councilor for Sustainability, Education, Animal Welfare and Living place. The councilor explained to them the improvements that are going to be made in the Temporary Animal Stay Center and the strategic lines of his department. Among the new features is a program aimed at older people who live alone and who wish to have an animal at home. They will be given an animal from the Temporary Animal Stay Center.
Mario Bordón was accompanied by several agents who are part of the new Animal and Environmental Protection Unit of the Local Police. The councilor explained that "this new unit will provide training to residents on the new state-wide Animal Welfare Law." "In addition - added Bordón - we continue to bring education in animal welfare to the municipality's educational centers within the Network Development Education program, now that a state law has just been approved, we believe that families are well informed about the demands of the new legislation.” Another novelty is a program, in collaboration with the Department of Promotion of Personal Autonomy, for an animal to accompany older people who live alone in the municipality and who wish to have a pet.
A municipal technician from the council was also present at the meeting who explained the new works in CETA, the slopes will be filled in and everything will be repopulated with native flora. The volunteers asked to extend CETA's opening hours to be able to spend more time with the animals. This is something that will be taken into account and will be requested in the new contract with the company that manages CETA.
