The two administrations agree to expand the facilities of the IES El Tablero I to respond to the forecast increase in students and the transfer of students from the old Enrique Jorge, before proceeding to demolish it for the construction of the new institute
The City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and the Department of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands have agreed to address a prompt solution for the urgent and long-delayed need to provide the community of El Tablero with a new Secondary school.
The solution that both administrations are considering is to promote during this same legislature the construction of a new classroom at the IES El Tablero I Aguañac through a management commission in order to speed up the procedures.
That was the consensus reached by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez and Councilor Hipólito Suárez Nuez during the visit they formalized together with the director of the Center, Esther Villanueva Fernández, and the Councilor for Education, Elena Álamo Vega, to the facilities of the IES El Table I and the old Enrique Jorge special education school, an aged and quite deteriorated building from the 70s where high school classes have been taught on a provisional basis since 2011.
The formula that the mayor and the Minister of Education intend to implement for the construction of the new Baccalaureate Institute previously requires an expansion of the IES El Tablero I, because its six blocks of classrooms are currently not enough to respond to the forecast increase in number of students that said center will have in the coming years and, likewise, the necessary transfer of the students who now study at the old Enrique Jorge.
As a more feasible and immediate solution, the Ministry's Schooling report proposes expanding the IES El Tablero with 12 classrooms and other rooms intended for the Enclave Classroom and the Higher Degree of Physical and Sports Activities. It will be done on the plot that was left free within the center after the demolition of the old teachers' homes. Said land is classified in the municipality's urban planning as endowment land for infrastructure.
This solution has the approval of the Department of Education of this City Council and the management of the IES El Tablero I Aguañac, since they understand that it will allow them to face the two forecasts made by the Department and at the same time complete the administrative procedure for the construction of the new center in the old Enrique Jorge.
Dining room and shadows
On the other hand, Marco Aurelio Pérez also took advantage of this visit by Hipólito Suárez to the municipality to urge the help of the Ministry in the works that will have to be undertaken as soon as possible to expand the dining service of the CEIP El Tablero, and to be able to cover the demand that They are carrying out practically all of the educational centers in the municipality that require shading areas.
Likewise, the mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana presented to the Minister of Education an outline of a project for the recovery of the old Hogar de Tunte School as a Nature Classroom, a project that the Mayor's Office and the Department of Local Development consider of vital importance. for the reactivation and revitalization of the social economy of the midlands of the municipality, and which would imply the recreational use of all the sports facilities in the area.
