The Southeast Region launches the first XNUMX% electric waste collection vehicle in the Canary Islands

 

The Commonwealth of the Southeast has today presented the first 100% electric waste collection truck in the Canary Islands, in its commitment to sustainable development of the Region as a fundamental element of the Sustainable Development Plan.

 

The president of the Commonwealth and mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, highlighted the very important investment of Ayagaures Medio Ambiente, winner of the collection and transportation service for urban organic waste, the management of composting points and the shredding and pruning management, which “has made a fundamental bet of almost 600.000 euros, much higher than the cost foreseen in the specifications”, which contemplated an amount of 180.000 euros.

 

 

“The introduction of a vehicle like this, a pioneer in the Canary Islands, is very important, it is taking a step forward and it is demonstrating that when you have the will to be more sustainable, it can be done perfectly,” stated the Minister of Environment, Climate, Energy and Knowledge of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Raúl García Brink, who congratulated the Commonwealth for “being at the forefront and spearheading” sustainability and for being aligned with the Cabildo “to achieve a much more sustainable island.”

 

The vehicle can carry up to 10 tons and has a 400 kW engine, which gives it a range of up to 200 km without emitting CO2 into the atmosphere. It is expected to collect more than 7.000 tons of organic waste distributed among the three municipalities and about 3.000 tons of pruning. Hernández highlighted the vehicle's ability to move without contaminating, one of the fundamental criteria of the tender, as well as its rapid maneuverability. of this new Volvo FE Electric model, which has been providing service in the three municipalities since June.

 

 

The acquisition of the vehicle is part of the contract for the collection and transportation of urban solid waste, for organic waste and the management of composting points, the shredding service and pruning management awarded by public tender to the company Ayagaures Medio Ambiente , S.L. for nearly 10 million euros and for a period of ten years.

 

In addition to this 0% electric collection truck, with 2 CO68 emissions, the company included in its proposal another 6 vehicles, of which 85.106 are also electric, which will allow approximately 2 kg of COXNUMX to be no longer emitted into the atmosphere per year. anus.

 

For years, the Southeast Commonwealth has also been a pioneer in the implementation of the organic waste collection service, for which it has installed 200 specific containers for this type of waste in the region.
